After the great success of November 30th, there are two vital meetings on the Pensions campaign for SOSiS activists and supporters to attend. Well done for N30 You might have noticed the slight delay in getting this update out – but it has been manic in the wake of the historic strike on November 30th. Over 500 in Kingston, 400 in Leatherhead, and around 300 in Woking – just about 1,000 people in Surrey attended rallies that David Cameron described as a “damp squib”. November 30th Strike to defend pensions

On November 30th, up to 25 public sector unions will be taking strike action to defend their pensions. Across Surrey, unions will be picketing out schools, council offices, leisure centres, Government offices and more in order to oppose the Government’s plans to make workers work longer, pay more pension contributions and get less out of their pensions once they retire. Two strike rallies for the price as one as Surrey public sector workers took over Camberley on June 30th

SOSiS Secretary Paul Couchman reports on the day Surrey public sector workers stood up in defence of their pensions. “Camberley has never seen anything like this before” said Ted Truscoe from the NUT as a human stream of mainly young people with balloons, flags and banners marched around the town centre on their way to a rally at Camberley Theatre. There were placards and banners from NUT, UCU, ATL, PCS and UNISON and the new Save Our Services in Surrey (SOSiS) banner.
